Our new Musical Director
Warwick Tyrrell is our new Musical Director and was appointed in July 2020.
Warwick has an outstanding career in many facets of professional musicianship and the wider entertainment industry. On leaving school in 1988 Warwick spent ten years as Principal Trombone with Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. He moved to London as Principal Trombone in London Philharmonic Orchestra for three years before returning to Australia where for the last 20+ years he has been an educator, artist and conductor in a wide range of musical settings. His most recent role was Artistic Director with Music for Canberra.
During his tertiary studies he was awarded the Sydney Conservatorium Dean’s Scholarship and he completed his Master of Music (Orchestral Conducting) at the Conservatorium of Sydney University.
He has received many awards including an Australia Arts Council Conducting Fellowship with the Queensland Youth Orchestra.
He has held various significant teaching appointments including lectureships in trombone at Sydney Conservatorium, Newcastle Conservatorium University of Newcastle, Wollongong University, and at Adelaide University. He has also conducted master classes at Royal College of Music London and the Guildhall School of Music London.
